Snowboarding Study: Goals

The goal of this study is to identify apparatuses within terrain parks that result in high risk for injury among children and youth in order to inform future terrain park configurations. The specific objectives are to:

  1. Determine injury rates, types of injury and risk factors for specific apparatuses resulting in injury among children and youth in Alberta.
  2. Determine the proportion of injured child and youth snowboarders bypassing the ski patrol and presenting directly to the emergency department.
  3. Determine the ability to use ski patrol accident report forms to capture diagnostically accurate injury data as compared to emergency department records and reliable risk factor information.
